The Library Board of Trustees delegates responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Library to the
Library Director. A Library Director is the chief administrative officer of the Library. The Director is
responsible for both day-to-day management of the Library and for assisting the Library Board with
"big picture" issues like planning and policy-making.
The Planning and Facilities Department of the Forsyth County Public Library is responsible for providing long
range planning for the library system as a whole. This department considers and submits construction plans for
projects such as renovations, additions to existing branches, and the construction of additional branches.
The Planning and Facilities Department also provides facility maintenance for all of the library branches and
headquarters as well as oversight for all construction projects as they come into fruition.
The Information Technology Department strives to provide appropriate technology as it evolves and to maintain
optimal functionality of existing computer hardware and systems. Information Technology staff often works
behind the scenes to ensure that technology in the library is functioning properly. This department supports
the technology needs of all of the other departments in the library. This includes working with staff in other
departments to keep them informed about library technology and trained in the skills necessary to allow them to
assist patrons in using public access computers and other computer-intensive library services, such as the
Automated Telephone Renewal and Notification System.
The Public Services Department is the largest and most publicly visible department. This department provides
the public face for the Library. Staff members in the Public Services Department interact with patrons on a
daily basis. They are the smiling faces who check your books in and out, answer your questions, shelve the
books, and provide programs for your children.
The Materials Department of the Forsyth County Public Library provides the necessary services to acquire,
catalog, and process all items in the collection. Staff members in this department handle over 23,000 items a
year. Materials are selected according to the official Collection
Development Policy and are responsive to the Forsyth County community. Patrons may request specific titles
for purchase. Interlibrary Loan staff borrows items that are
beyond the scope of the public library collection from libraries across the Southeast.
The Support Services Department is responsible for the Library's financial operations and Human Resource
management. Key services in the financial area include accounting, budget management, financial recordkeeping
and reporting, payroll, and purchasing. Key services in the human resources area include recruitment and
