Understanding America
Celebrating America 250
Sunday, July 05
2:00pm - 3:30pm
This month's topic is "The Declaration of Independence and Its Impact on the Bill of Rights," presented by Dr. Eric Wilk.
The Bill of Rights was a critical addition to the U.S. Constitution and has shaped the country politically and socially since they were added. However, the ideas of the Bill of Rights did not just appear during the debate over the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. The ideas underlying the Bill of Rights were shaped and framed by concepts found within the Declaration of Independence. The continuity of ideas among some of the critical founding documents is explored by this lecture.
