War Crimes: Russia's invasion of Ukraine has resulted in widespread charges of war crimes and calls for justice. But what exactly are war crimes? Opinions of what constitutes a war crime have evolved, as have ways to identify and punish the perpetrators. How will the war crimes committed in Ukraine be dealt with?

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion on world affairs. Forsyth County Public Library and the University of North Georgia (UNG) will present information and lead discussions on a range of fascinating and timely geopolitical topics selected by the Foreign Policy Association.

This week’s topic is War Crimes presented by Dr. John Romero a historian of Modern Russia and the Soviet Union at the University of North Georgia. He received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University and is a research affiliate of the Russian Studies Workshop at Indiana University. Dr. Romero is a specialist of Russia's ethnic and racial diversity and he is currently working on a book about the history of the Volga Tatars, contemporary Russia's largest ethnic minority group.
