Handwriting the Constitution
Celebrating America 250
Thursday, September 17
5:00pm - 8:00pm
Denmark Library
Denmark Meeting Room Side AGrab a pen and get reacquainted with our nation’s founding document to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary! Everyone is welcome to drop in to this quiet, introspective gathering to handwrite a portion of the constitution and to reflect and deepen one’s understanding of this historic document. Don’t expect to transcribe the whole document in one sitting! Rather, copy whichever parts you’d like or however much you can without straining yourself. This will be a time for individual, quiet introspection, not political or legal discussion.
Calligraphy and regular writing supplies will be provided or you are welcome to bring your own. Reproductions of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights will also be available to transcribe. This program is self-paced so you are welcome to stay for the whole three hours or stay as long as you’d like.
Mini U.S. Constitution booklets provided, while supplies last.
About Handwriting the Constitution
Handwriting the Constitution is a social art project that began in 2017 by artist Morgan O’Hara. The project invites people from all walks of life to meet in public spaces to handwrite the U.S. Constitution, or other documents, to better understand our nation’s founding documents.
