Dathan Harbert of Consolidated Gold Mines will present the history of the 1828 Dahlonega Gold Rush, the key points of interest, and how it led to the creation of Consolidated Gold Mine.
The Dahlonega Gold Rush began in 1828 when a deer hunter tripped over a rock full of gold. Within a year, the 15,000 miners that flocked to the area were able to pick up gold from the ground. Consolidated Gold Mine expert, Dathan Harbert, will discuss techniques used for gold mining and the history of the largest gold mining operation east of the Mississippi River. Consolidated Gold Mine gives year-round tours on the Consolidated Gold Mine Property and educates the public on the gold mining history of the Dahlonega area.
