Celebrating America 250

This month's topic is "The Declaration of Independence as Inspiration for the Declaration of Sentiments at the 1848 Seneca Convention," presented by Dr. Ronnie Grant.

The impact of the Declaration of Independence can be seen in many documents since it was drafted in 1776. The ideas and themes within it were revolutionary and have provided inspiration for further developments. This lecture looks at the influences of the Declaration of Independence on the Declaration of Sentiments which came out of the Seneca Falls Convention on women’s rights.

Understanding America is a program series dedicated to educating the public and encouraging discussions on American history and politics. These programs will be on the first Sunday of every month, at 2:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Denmark Library. This program is in partnership with the University of North Georgia's Department of Political Science & International Affairs.
