Art, architecture, and popular culture contribute to build a heritage and shared culture for Latin Americans residing in their birth countries and Hispanics living in the United States. Artworks by Diego Rivera, Jesus Rafael Soto, Frida Kahlo, Tarsila do Amaral, Rupert García, Carmen Lomas Garza, and Yehimi Cambrón, among many others, as well as Chicano Park in San Diego and the popular cartoon character Dora the Explorer resonate with emotions, ideas, and experiences of Latin Americans and Hispanic Americans. This presentation will discuss how all of these expressions have a role in building a shared cultural identity and heritage for Hispanics.
Coinciding with this program is an exhibit, housed at the Sharon Forks Library throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, highlighting the works of local Hispanic artists.
